In this episode of the podcast, I visit with Derek Selznick, Executive Director of the Kentucky Guild of Brewers. We met up at Monnik Beer Co. to indulge in their new collaboration project with Paducah Beer Works, Paw Paw Don’t Preach, part of the Kentucky Proud + Kentucky Guild of Brewers line of craft beers coming out this fall. We discuss what exactly the Commonwealth’s brewers guild does, their requirements, and what the Kentucky beverage scene’s future might look like. Be on the look out for their new website and new Untappd-like app that will reward users for their Kentucky brewery patronage.
Next, I get a sneak peak at Mile Wide Beer Company. This yet-to-be-open Louisville craft brewery is headed by four owners — two of whom hark from St. Louis’ Schlafly. I speak with Scott Shreffler and Kyle Tavares about their experiences opening their new brewery. Get excited for their Scavenger Series line, which involves hoppy beers with the same grain bill but with different regional hops. Mile Wide wants to be known for their crowler usage and beautiful labels. With Kyle and Scott’s experience and networking prowess, I believe this brewery is setting itself up perfectly for great success country-wide, after many collaboration opportunities.
Mile Wide Beer Company plans to open sometime before 2016 ends. Once open, you can visit them seven days a week.
